| Movement interview: Wighnomy Brothers Posted: 15 May 2009 03:37 AM PDT The bottle of vodka was wiped out within two hours. It was destroyed by the Wighnomy Brothers, two gnome-like DJs with a penchant for drink, dance, and the joys of minimal house. It's the same story wherever Robag Wruhme and Sören Bodner play, but whilst their DJ booth escapades have been well captured in the past, little has been discussed about the studio technique and sound of the two revolutionaries who hail from Jena, a large university town on the river Saale. Ahead of their highly anticipated performance at Detroit's Movement festival later this month, Beatportal grabbed Robag Wruhme for a quick chat about their sound and took a look back at five essential Wighnomy Brothers tracks. |
| Video: Damian Lazarus talks about ‘Smoke The Monster Out’ Posted: 14 May 2009 02:30 PM PDT Damian Lazarus put together this typically irreverent video to promote his excellent debut album 'Smoke The Monster Out' (or 'Smoke The Monker Out', you'll see) which dropped recently on Get Physical Music. The Crosstown Rebels boss has really found his feet (or is that lost them?) through his fascination for Alice In Wonderland, bird feathers, monster heads and the bizarre. It all comes together, in a very weird way. Just check out the video for 'Neverending', which features mad people in a scary hospital where straight jackets lurk in the shadows and bunny eared nurses escort you to the cutting floor. Get a sneak peak of 'Smoke The Monster Out' after the jump. Watch this video on Beatportal |

As commanders in chief, A&R execs, CEOs, WTFs, OMGs, LOLs, and so on and so forth, of Munich-based label, Permanent Vacation, they have championed the renaissance of the disco genre and led the way, hips-shaking, hands-clapping, in the fight against the mope-around minimal movement. To say the rise of Permanent Vacation has been meteoric would not be far off the mark. It was only back in 2006 that Bioly and Frölich’s lovechild was first conceived. Yet their very first label anthology, 'Selected Label Works N°1', boasts a wealth of contemporary classics from the likes of Todd Terje, Tensnake, Sally Shapiro and Aeroplane which proves that the label has massive pulling, as well as staying, power. We caught up with the Bavarian boys to talk about, amongst other things, angels wearing Brazilian bikinis. It was cosmic… |
| Video: Dubfire’s party bus in Lithuania Posted: 14 May 2009 08:24 AM PDT US techno champion Dubfire proved he's a man of the people recently by organising a special party bus for 50 of his biggest fans in Lithuania. He booked a bus in Vilnius and loaded it with his fans for a one and half hour drive to Kuanas' Exit club where he played at a special Beatport sponsored event. On the bus, Dubfire spun a special Traktor set directly from his laptop, whilst his fans danced and drank their merry way across the country. Just check the video! Watch this video on Beatportal |
