| This man wants to bomb you, kinda. Posted: 06 May 2009 05:31 AM PDT Bomb. Arab. Devastation. Three words that are likely to cause panic when dropped into a newspaper headline these days. When used in dance music, the headline takes on a whole different meaning, as dance music terrorist Saeed Younan proves via his new single 'Kumbalha', which literally means 'bomb' in Arabic. With Mark Knight having included 'Kumbalha' on his forthcoming Toolroom Knights CD and support coming from Steve Lawler and DJ Vibe, Younan's 'Kumbalha' is quickly becoming a weapon of choice for mainroom-facing DJs. | Posted: 05 May 2009 04:05 PM PDT Heidi growled politely at me from behind the counter of London’s much loved Phonica record shop once, and asked “What?!” Her curly blonde hair and bright red dress next to all the racks of white labels and minimally designed record sleeves made her stand out like a solitary male in the lingerie section of a department store, except, unlike the bumbling man she knew her shit. I said something about house and techno and she grabbed a handful of vinyl and propped them up next to a turntable for me. I bought every single record. That same confidence and music knowledge got Heidi to where she is today: a host for BBC Radio 1, a touring veteran able to cope with anything Get Physical throws at her, and an ability to drink almost anyone under the turntable. Heidi is the perfect candidate for this week's Weekend Weapons feature. |
