| Paul van Dyk slams ‘trancey vocal nonsense’ Posted: 25 Apr 2009 04:57 AM PDT In a recent interview at Trance Energy, Paul van Dyk spoke out about his thoughts on the current state of trance including a rare outburst about how a lot of today's trance music is "really cheesy shit music". This isn't the first time PvD has expressed his disliking for the music that is considered 'trance' today, but after the recent heavy discussions on Beatportal about the state of trance his comments are timely. | Competition: Got a Roland Juno synth? Want another? Posted: 24 Apr 2009 04:34 PM PDT Roland US has launched a competition for anyone who owns one of their legendary Juno synths. They're asking Juno owners to upload innovative and entertaining videos of themselves to YouTube showing how they use their Juno keyboard for the chance to win one of three Juno-Stage keyboards. "The sounds in the Juno keyboards have been inspiring musicians since 1982," explained Vince LaDuca, Roland's Product Marketing Manager. "The Juno has defined the sound of entire pop genres, and can be heard on tons of classic recordings. We want to hear from the rest of the world about how the Juno-Series synthesizers have impacted their lives." |
| Video: Beatbox kid does electro house Posted: 24 Apr 2009 03:17 PM PDT Here's a bit of Friday afternoon fun - a video of an amazing kid beatboxing electro house and breaks. In the intro he says he wants to be "in the beatbox battle", and immediately the cynic inside you goes "yeah right, dream on kid." He then goes on to smash it with a fusion of electro house and rock-infused breakbeat. Plus 1 to the dude on web cam! Watch this video on Beatportal |
| Top 10 DJ Chart - Dimitri From Paris Posted: 24 Apr 2009 02:23 PM PDT France officially recognised Dimitri From Paris' contribution to music by awarding him a Knight of the Arts and Letters in February 2005, so intrinsic has he been to the country's development of house music. Dimitri uploaded his first ever DJ chart to Beatport this week, and it shows how the award-winning producer, remixer and DJ is firmly rooted in '70s funk and disco. He loves uplifting soulful vocal house music and listening to it just makes you want to break out the flares and roll on down to the roller disco. |
| Interview: This is the real Sander Kleinenberg Posted: 24 Apr 2009 12:41 PM PDT Sander Kleinenberg is a pioneer of DVJing and is one of the first DJs in the world to have experimented with synchronised visuals in the DJ booth. With a new DVD album set to be released on Little Mountain Recordings early in the fall and a forthcoming world tour, we decided to catch up with Sander to ask him lots of weird questions (in the style of Bernard Pivot) in the hope of finding out more about this talented artist. We clearly caught him off guard. This is the real Sander Kleinenberg. |
| Posted: 24 Apr 2009 11:26 AM PDT Woah, I’m in love. As I loaded my player with new tunes and went about my work day, enjoying the hum of beats without vocals keeping me focused and calm, like a beacon of light in the techno darkness came Delphic. Their debut single ‘Counterpoint’, out now on R&S, is a fast paced indie dance triumph with energizing yet blissful synths, strings, drums and emotionally uplifting vocals reminding us ‘nothing’s wrong today’. Upon further investigation, it’s clear that Delphic are poised for success already. |
| Posted: 24 Apr 2009 10:27 AM PDT Here's the video for 'Forever', the new single from Finnish progressive trance trio Syna aka Toni Kurkimäki, Mika Vuorela and Timo Juuti. Driven by dark and progressive breakbeat, 'Forever' is an emotional trip that manages to sound melancholic and uplifting at the same time, which might explain why the trio decided to do this cool hand-drawn animated film, which depicts a cute ninja-bunny rabbit battling with evil ghouls. | Posted: 24 Apr 2009 09:09 AM PDT Renegade Hardware’s Loxy drops this fresh jungle anthem, reminiscent of his earlier productions on Shy FX’s ever growing ‘Digital Soundboy Recordings’. Sampling EmalKay’s dubstep anthem, 'My Story' originally released on Boka Records, Loxy and production compadre, Reound have turned this into a high octane, vocal land-mine of a track. Bomb! |
