Lee Burridge: ‘San Francisco could be like Berlin’

Posted: 03 Apr 2009 03:47 AM PDT

Lee Burridge is not your run of the mill DJ. Despite being one of the most famous DJs around, he has consistently avoided the limelight and instead enjoyed his time traveling, meeting people, creating new concepts and partying as much as he did 10 years ago. He genuinely loves what he does. Lee recently moved to San Francisco following his recent trips to Burning Man, and he's starting a new party concept there called Get Weird. He also belives that San Francisco is making a comeback and will reclaim its spot as the Mecca of great dance music, perhaps even to rival Berlin's status as the capital of electronic music. I met up with Lee at the Standard hotel downtown to find out what craziness he has been up to recently and why he believes in San Francisco so much.

WMC Track: Calvin Harris ‘I’m Not Alone’ (Deadmau5 Remix)

Posted: 02 Apr 2009 06:18 PM PDT

It would be impossible to imagine WMC this year without at least one Deadmau5 record dominating the Miami week. The all pervasive nature of his records is such that, even if you avoid going to see any electro house DJs and don't visit any of the festivals or large clubs (where his music works best), you'll still end up hearing his records over the radio, booming out of car stereos or echoing across hotel swimming pools from adjacent balconies. Deadmau5 remix of Calvin Harris 'I'm Not Alone' is the mau5 record I heard a lot at WMC.

Interview: Backstage with WhoMadeWho

Posted: 02 Apr 2009 12:33 PM PDT

For those out of the loop WhoMadeWho are a Danish trio that specialise in mad capped performances, stoned rocky electronic dance music and general craziness. Consisting of Tomas Barford, Jeppe Kjellberg and Tomas Hoffding the band have just released their second album 'The Plot' on Gomma (listen to it in the player below). Having managed to defy conventions, WhoMadeWho have managed to create a solid album that combines elements from David Bowie and nu disco through to Queens Of The Stone Age and Talking Heads, yet their LP still manages to flow perfectly. The band are also known for their intense live performances, for covers of Benny Benassi and Mr.Oizo chucked in mid set, and for unpredictable set endings. They are, in their own words, total chaos. Beatportal caught up with singer and bass player Tomas Hoffding, who was attempting to keep warm backstage at the Maria club in Berlin, before the band took to the stage.
