WMC Track: SIS ‘Bubu’

This first release on the brand new Mitu Records dropkicks us onto the darkest of dancefloors, and comes from the ever-mysterious Turkish SIS. Following on last summer's jazzy heater 'Trompeta', and this winter's Vanessa Williams bootleg-sampled 'Nesrib', SIS once again works his eerie magic with 'Bubu', in what can only be destined for WMC greatness.

mp3s to sound as good as CDs

Here is the news that digital DJs have been waiting for since the dawn of the digital music era: Thomson, one of the original developers behind mp3 technology, today announced a new member to their mp3 family that offers ultimate audio quality thanks to its lossless compression. The new mp3HD encoder, believe it or not, offers the creation of mp3HD files out of stereo material in wav form at 16-bit precision and 44.1Khz. What does that all mean? The days of people complaining about mp3s sounding worse than CDs or vinyl are over.

Cr2 and Fedde Le Grande ‘Get This Feeling’ Remix Winners

Cr2's 'Get This Feeling' remix contest saw 267 aspiring producers put their skills to work and submit their best remix, and we sent the top ten remixes across four different genres to Cr2 Records to pick four winners. Of these forty remixes that were chosen by the public as well as Beatport staff, four winners have been chosen. Drum roll, please...

WMC Track: 2020 Soundsystem ‘Sliding Away’ (Johnny D Vocal Mix)

'Orbitallife' didn't quite become the WMC Track it could have been last year, as the profile of Johnny D last March was not large enough to make the track the instant all pervasive monster it eventually became - it took months and months of traditional DJ hype to get it to the top of everyone's charts. But this time around, Johnny D is a dance music phenomenon and the veritable leader of the new rolling house rat pack. The timing of the release of Johnny D's remix of 2020 Soundsystem's 'Sliding Away' then, was impeccably timed by 2020 Vision for WMC. There will be terraces rejoicing across Miami to this track next week, and here's why.

Godskitchen’s submersive DJ booth hints at clubland’s future

The Killers and Etienne de Crecy might have popularised the idea of a submersive audiovisual environment for live performance, but it was always clear DJs and club events would be next. UK club event giants Godskitchen recently unveiled their brand new main arena festival DJ booth the Godskitchen Boombox at an event in the Ukraine, with trance monolith Armin Van Buuren being the first DJ to test out the system. Their promo video shows exactly how amazing submersive DJ booths can be.

Pete Tong’s first Tongfactor EP lands

Last October, Pete Tong conducted a 'Tongfactor' talent search in conjunction with Beatport during his North American tour in order to expose new dance music talent. Today his project comes to fruition with the first 'Tongfactor EP' (listen to it in the player), which features two excellent cuts from up and coming producers Ned Shephard and Redroche, who each handed Pete Tong their demos during his last tour. Round two of his Tongfactor talent search begins today in Austin, Texas, and Pete Tong has created a special White Label on Beatport to release the best music he is given.
