WMC Track: Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues ‘Reel’

Posted: 17 Mar 2009 06:43 AM PDT

There is a big need for lazy house music grooves during Miami's WMC, an imperative intrinsically linked to the stretched energy levels of attendees and the large amount of afternoon/sunrise sets. A standard night out's enthusiasm (which rises and then falls within a few hours) in Miami is replaced by days of general haziness that if anything, become a purer canvas for DJs to play with. Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues' excellent new house cut 'Reel' will work wonders for any DJs who find themselves playing to a crowd that's struggling to keep moving (awake), because in those instances, you just need to keep it afloat. Hear a preview after the jump!

Snakefist - Serum & Bladerunner

Posted: 17 Mar 2009 02:25 AM PDT

On Fabio’s liquid imprint comes one of the most highly anticipated drum & bass releases of the year, ‘Snakefist’. Having a finely tuned ear and an unworldly technique for discovering new talent and plugging underground releases, Fabio famously pulled out of nowhere Lynx’s ‘Disco Dodo’ track in 2007, which immediately became the record of the year - and it looks like he’s done it again.

Fake Blood Essential Mix

Posted: 16 Mar 2009 06:59 PM PDT

British house and electro producer Fake Blood, aka DJ Touché, scooped up this week's Essential Mix and breaks it down into two parts: One that bumps the club and the second which takes you straight to the afterparty. Fake Blood is one half of indie dance outfit The Black Ghosts and has original productions that include club cuts 'Mars' and 'Splashing Blood' (Fake Blood Theme), as well as more mainstream tunes 'Start the Commotion' and 'Ooh La La' that broke into the big time with commercials for Mitsubishi and Budweiser. In this driving selection you'll find tracks from Hatiras, Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco and several selections and remixes from the faker himself.

Weekend Weapons…Erol Alkan

Posted: 16 Mar 2009 01:54 PM PDT

Our Weekend Weapons feature returns after a two week spring break with a selection from the all-conquering high priest of indie dance, Erol Alkan. Bursting on to the scene atop the crest of the electroclash wave that swept through the scene back in 2001, Alkan was known as the one-stop shop for everything 'mash-up'. The most famous of Alkan's efforts saw Kylie Minogue recreating his handiwork, performing her own 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' track on top of New Order's 'Blue Monday' at the 2002 Brit Awards. The spiritual home of all things electroclash (and lots more besides) was Alkan's infamous Monday night party Trash, at The End in London, which happily married the worlds of guitars and synthesizers right up until its final night back in January 2007.

Our good friend and Beatportal contributor Francis Preve is giving away his Ableton-based take on the sound of the classic 808 cowbell as heard on his recent track 'Less Cowbell' for Josh Gabriel's Different Pieces imprint. No stranger to the patch creation process, Francis has been a sound designer for Ableton since 2004, creating hundreds of presets in the process. Francis took the time to explain the method behind his creation over at the Create Digital Music blog.
