The New Beatport is almost here

Beatport's engineering department currently resembles something of an after party, as bloodshot eyes and the stench of sweat haunts the room. Fingers are frantically tapping on keyboards and screens are burdened with row after row of 1s and 0s, as developers and designers, database administrators and IT geeks scramble to push the New Beatport. Beatportal joyfully skipped down into the chaos to bug the world's most stressed lead engineer, and his half grunt, half cuss message was this: Beatport 4.0 will launch in a few hours.

Christian Smith relaunches Tronic label

First impressions: Gui Boratto’s ‘Take My Breath Away’

Brazil's Gui Boratto elegantly introduced clubland to his unique world of dreamy melodic techno in 2007 with his debut 'Chromophobia'. The LPs melancholy, high production aesthetic, and electro-pop sensibilities ('Beautiful Life' was one of the biggest sing-a-long anthems of that year) made Gui a star around the world. Kompakt will release his second album 'Take My Breath Away' on 23rd March, right before Miami's annual WMC, and today Beatportal had a sneaky listen.

"Recession? What recession?" a man might say, before adding his signature to a cheque for $64,000 destined for Angelis Labor, a company that offers the world's most expensive turntable. With magnetic levitation running this thing, absolutely zero friction or noise is created. Indeed, the Gabriel turntable is a Ferrari of the turntable world. Actually, maybe it's more of a Formula 1 car.

Darkroom - Jerome Sydenham

Darker house music isn't exactly in abundance these days, what with the deeper tribal instincts of progressive house having been taken over by electro basslines, and real instruments and worldly influences having landed joyfully in techno. 'Darkroom' by Jerome Sydenham however, arrives on dancefloors like a thunderous cloud of doom from Transylvania.
