Top 10 DJ Chart - The Martinez Brothers

Posted: 13 Jan 2009 03:51 PM CST

Chris is 17, Steve is 20. Both are churchgoing kids from the Bronx and their dad stands guard next to them at every gig. That doesn't sound like the kind of background you'd expect from a hotly tipped club duo, but The Martinez Brothers [a] are an anomaly set for big things in 2009. Their profile has risen so steeply in the last 12 months that they were the first dance artists to be featured in the New York Times for quite some time, and the paper even suggested the brothers could be New York's next house music stars. They've just released a new track on Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity [l] and in order to help those users out there who haven't yet heard The Martinez Brothers hype, we've decided to feature their current Top 10 DJ chart.

What’s Tokyo’s Womb like? We venture inside

Posted: 13 Jan 2009 02:45 AM CST

As Beatportal grows, we send our spies to ever-more remote parts of the world, including Tokyo, Japan, which recently hosted Sven Väth's official Cocoon New Year's Eve party for 2008/2009. Club Womb is like something out of Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner – an underground club with no signs outside, surrounded by the hypnotic, neon rainbow of Shibuya's candy-coloured love hotel district. Two innocuous metal doors in the seedy underbelly of Tokyo are the only giveaway to this techno mecca's locale.

Roger Sanchez drops Pacha Ibiza for Amnesia

Posted: 12 Jan 2009 04:55 PM CST

The opulent surroundings of Ibiza's Pacha nightclub and the funky, soulful house grooves of US DJ Roger Sanchez [a] seem like the perfect match, but after seven years of glamming it up in Ibiza Town, the S-Man has decided to relocate his Release Yourself party to Pacha's rival club Amnesia. Roger Sanchez will take over the stunning terrace of Amnesia (now one of the best club spaces on the island, in our eyes) every Tuesday, while Dutch star Armin Van Buuren [a] will get his trance on in the main room.
