Steve Porter’s ‘Rap Chop’ gets 1 million views and dance Posted: 04 May 2009 02:51 PM PDT Last week when we posted Steve Porter's "brain fart" piss take Rap Chop, an informercial-video mash up of a product called Slap Chop, it had a couple of thousand views. Now the video is close to clocking one million views on YouTube, which is a stupendous amount considering Steve Porter did it for a bit of studio fun. And now, 'Rap Chop' has just got itself its own YouTube video dedication/response, with the bizarre 'Rap Chop Dance' which features a girl (with a bad web cam) doing strange dance moves to the track. We're not sure what to make of it all. Check it out for yourself after the jump!
Posted: 04 May 2009 02:02 PM PDT When I join Nic Fanciulli on tour on Thursday, I'll also get the chance to hang out with KOS who is one of the most promising new DJ talents from the UK. With both Nic and James Zabiela heavily supporting the London-based producer and DJ, and KOS on the books of the influential DJ agencies Bullitt bookings and Club Class, there are plenty of people tipping him for greater things. KOS put together this Global Underground pre-tour Top 10 DJ chart for us, which showcases the deep techno and house sound that has become synonymous with his popular Familia club nights in Britain. It also gives some clue as to what to expect from him during the tour.
Damian Lazarus’ ‘Smoke The Monster’ here Posted: 04 May 2009 12:47 PM PDT Damian Lazarus' long awaited debut LP 'Smoke The Monster Out' dropped today on Get Physical Music, and as expected, the album is a highly ambitious and personal record. With blissful guitar-laden pop, drifting minimal excursions, soulful electronica soundscapes, classical interludes and uptempo electro, 'Smoke The Monster Out' sounds like nothing one would expect from the Crosstown Rebels'/hell-raising DJ.
The Crystal Method back with new album Posted: 04 May 2009 11:06 AM PDT If you were (lucky enough to be?) a raver in North America between 1995 and 2002, you no doubt know The Crystal Method, not just by name but by reputation. TCM were true masters of the big room breakbeat style that appealed to ravers and non-ravers alike. Sometimes referred to as big beat, their peers in this genre were Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, and The Prodigy. As big as those names may seem, Ken and Scott were considered equally fee-worthy by promoters and punters alike. In fact, their debut artist album ‘Vegas’ (1997) was one of the biggest selling electronic albums of all time.
