The man behind Sasha: Charlie May Posted: 28 Apr 2009 05:27 AM PDT If you know Sasha, you know Charlie May. The British producer is well known for being one half of pioneering progressive house duo Spooky, but it is probably May's collaborations with Sasha in the studio that are his most famous productions never to have been fully attributed to him. 'Scorchio', 'Xpander', 'Airdrawndagger', 'Involver' - most of Sasha's biggest chart smashing releases post 1998 have involved Charlie May's production prowess on some level, but like many studio partners to the stars, his input has remained rather anonymous. Not anymore, however. Charlie May is ready to step out of the shadows with his first real solo work.
The curious case of Deadmau5’ neck tattoo Posted: 27 Apr 2009 04:28 PM PDT Beatportal was forwarded this curious photo of Deadmau5 today, who is sporting a huge neon green tattoo of a pixelated space invader on his neck. Ouch! You can see it's still red on his neck. Apparently Deadmau5 fancied getting a tattoo and chose that particular space invader image. 'So what?!' I hear you say. It's just another star getting a tattoo, nothing special. Yeah except, the image is actually the logo of French DJ and producer Joachim Garraud.
Meeting Mannheim and Cecille’s Nick Curly Posted: 27 Apr 2009 03:05 PM PDT Three record labels have helped to put Mannheim on the house and techno map, and two of them are run by Nick Curly. Curly's Cecille and 8Bit imprints, along with Mannheim's Oslo Records, are arguably responsible for kick starting the 'new' deep house movement that has swept clubland in the last 18 months. With an emphasis on percussion and organic drums, the rolling house music that the three labels have released has bridged the house and techno divide in a way that has spoken to DJs across the entire spectrum. Johnny D, SIS, Robert Dietz, Andomat 3000, Markus Fix, Livio & Roby, Audiofly - all of these artists have topped the club charts via Cecille and 8Bit. Beatportal's Polly Lavine met Nick Curly in Dublin to find out more the sound of Mannheim, the meteoric rise of his labels, and his studio set up.

Posted: 26 Apr 2009 09:35 AM PDT Here is the video for Cagedbaby's excellent new single 'Forced', which sounds a lot like The Killers (that's a good thing). With its sing-along, euphoric vocals, uplifting synths and driving rock-infused beats, 'Forced' could be Cagedbaby aka Tom Gandey's biggest single to date - it's definitely radio friendly. It's Cagedbaby's first single in three years. Beware, this track is the type to get stuck in your head easily. Watch this video on Beatportal
