WMC track: Fredski & Tomas Barfod ‘March On Swan Lake’ Posted: 13 Mar 2009 04:50 AM PDT Get Physical Music seem to have developed a cunning knack for outputting sun soaked anthems over the years. The theme can be traced back to 2005 and the release of the Booka Shade double header 'Mandarine Girl' and 'Body Language' (alongside M.A.N.D.Y.); a pair of tracks that practically suffocated Ibiza through their sheer ubiquity. Think back to Samim's summer 2007 accordion jig 'Heater' and Noze's booze-addled, Miami conquering 'You Have To Dance' from last year, and the trend becomes abundantly clear. Although not quite an all encompassing anthem in the vein as those above, Fredski and Tomas Barfod's 'March On Swan Lake' looks like it could be shaping up to inflict hefty levels of damage upon the terraces of WMC this year.
Bomb Alert! Paul Woolford remixes Morgan Geist ‘The Shore’ Posted: 13 Mar 2009 02:04 AM PDT Bomb alert! British champion and Space Ibiza resident Paul Woolford will drop a remix of Morgan Geist's 'The Shore' next week, the standout vocal disco cut from the Metro Area man's solo LP from last year 'Double Night Time'.
Posted: 12 Mar 2009 05:34 PM PDT If FLYamSAM is sounding rudely familiar then look no further than Los Angeles Brainfeeder cohorts Flying Lotus and Samiyam. It’s as if these guys weren’t cool enough already, they had to had to join forces and form a supergroup.
Create the next Minus music video Posted: 12 Mar 2009 02:46 PM PDT Minus have entrusted the task of creating their next music video over to their fans. Those who fancy getting involved in the project will need to be quick however, as the final date for entries is April 2nd - a mere three weeks away. The winner will have their material used as the track's official video clip, along with the obligatory signed copies of the album and single.
Sound like Daft Punk by using QWERTY Posted: 12 Mar 2009 11:51 AM PDT Now you too can sound instantly like Daft Punk with this rather silly but fun QWERTY keyboard-triggered web app called iDaft. It has all the vocal samples from 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' sitting ready to go and they're clean as a whistle. All it requires is some rhythmic finger taps, and hey presto!, you've got yourself the beginnings of a bespoke Daft Punk bootleg.
Video: Steve Porter mashes Jacko’s ‘This Is It! speech Posted: 12 Mar 2009 09:54 AM PDT If doom and gloom and the woes of the economy are getting you down, this Michael Jackson mash-up by Steve Porter just might help you smile. The New York-based producer and DJ took Jacko's recent 'This Is It! announcement from the London press conference about his final curtain call, and layered it over the top of an electro groove. The weirdest bit? When Porter pitches MJ's voice up on "I'll be, I'll be performing the SONGS fans want to hear." Watch this video on Beatportal
WMC Track: Oscar G. ‘Chunky Buddha’ Posted: 12 Mar 2009 08:25 AM PDT Just in time for WMC, Miami native Oscar G. adds this deep and tribal monster to the arsenal of the Innervisions 'Secret Weapons' series. Coming from one half of the production outfit and label Murk who are said to have helped define the house sound of the the '90s, particularly in Miami, we can expect that this one will drop once again like an A-bomb on Miami's dancefloors if this veteran's instincts are in place. Do away with all wholesome thoughts of sun and surf here, as this one feels more like the beginnings of a long night, with grit, grime and danger to boot.
Posted: 12 Mar 2009 04:12 AM PDT Toasty’s ‘The Knowledge’ has already gone down as being one of the classic tracks within dubstep circles through its utilisation of vocoded vocals and breakstep rhythms. Five whole years after its original release date, this pioneering debut track is massively reshaped into its third incarnation by Untold.

WMC Track: 2000 And One ‘Dat Na Poku’ Posted: 11 Mar 2009 07:31 AM PDT Dutch star 2000 And One delivered an excellent album 'Heritage' recently, as all eight tracks were focused solely on the dancefloor and designed for club destruction. Out of all the tracks on the album, the chunky house grooves of 'Dat Na Poku' is most likely destined for WMC greatness as it's an incredibly satisfying mid-set roller that revels in its subtle loop-centric arrangement.
Posted: 11 Mar 2009 03:53 AM PDT Conservative British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph have printed a slightly cringe-worthy but well meaning article discussing the rise of pretentiousness within modern electronic music. Far from taking a dim view on such an assertion however, columnist Edmund Conway concludes that after years of disparaging frowns from the mainstream towards its oft-dismissed musical cousin, dance music is now a complex and "sophisticated" beast that has as much to do with Steve Reich and Phillip Glass as it does with sweaty nightclubs. The mainstream British press' take on electronic music has often been derided within the electronic music community as being behind the times or hideously out of touch, casting off the genre as 'dead' and then gleefully singing its praises once it was perceived to be back in fashion.

He's also been nominated for a Beatport Music Award, so we figured it was about time to catch up with this mysterious up and comer and find out more about his path into dance music and DJing. |
Video: Yet another Daft Punk rip off Posted: 10 Mar 2009 12:22 PM PDT Here's yet another Daft Punk rip off. The French duo's track 'Veridis Quo' has now been lazily used as a backing song for hip hop/r&b singer Jazmine Sullivan to croon over. Unlike Kanye West's 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' sampling though, 'Veridis Quo' plays out in its full entirety. Watch this video on Beatportal
Posted: 10 Mar 2009 08:22 AM PDT Sharam Jey's new video for 'Monday Morning', with LouLou Players featuring Princess Superstar, looks like about as much fun as a barrel of monkeys. Whip cream, inflatable pool toys, animal masks and fireworks take leading roles in this fun and irreverent video, and might just inspire some new party games. Watch this video on Beatportal

Check out what these champions have to offer after the break. |
