| Betting on Breakspoll part 3: General Midi and Stereo:Type have a flutter Posted: 25 Feb 2009 03:41 PM PST In our final series of features in the run up to this year’s annual breakbeat awards at Fabric in London, we talk to scene stalwarts General MIDI and one of this year's freshest acts, Stereo Type. General MIDI, who is also nominated for Best Breaks Artist in the BMAs, had a massive year with his ‘Milton’ release on Distinctive Records and will be playing at the awards show on February 26th. Stereo Type, meanwhile (the partnership between Ctrl Z’s Tommy Dash and Screwface), recently dropped their debut album on Hardcore Beats and have been tipped to be among the biggest production acts of 2009. |
| Urban Torque on clocking a century Posted: 25 Feb 2009 01:32 PM PST Celebrated UK label Urban Torque commemorates its 100th release this month, having been pushing the groove train along a deep track since 2001. What started out as a London club night grew to transform into a successful and accomplished label, with names like Milton Jackson, Hernán Cattáneo, Sei A and Francois Dubois all gracing the imprint's catalogue. Today Beatportal sat down with label heads Jason Moore and Leigh Morgan to talk about the pitfalls and joys of running their successful imprint, and what big things are in store for Urban Torque in 2009. |
| Beatport Burners: Episode 98 - Beatport Posted: 25 Feb 2009 11:00 AM PST Beatport Burners take the hottest new releases out there and wrap them up in a nice little weekly podcast, painstakingly handpicked by Beatport staff. | WMC Track: Pascal FEOS & Heiko MSO ‘Luv’ Posted: 25 Feb 2009 09:42 AM PST Although still somewhere on the not-too-distant horizon, we can't help but turn our attentions to sunnier climes of the impending Miami WMC - the year's first major event on the dance music calendar. As part of the lead-up to the festivities, which officially take place this year between 24th - 28th March, Beatportal will be to gazing into our crystal 'rave' ball and be hazarding guesses as to which tracks will be smashing up the clubs, terraces and pool parties this year. Our first dose of hype-mongering concerns a duo that have been putting out tracks together for well over a decade and have returned with a beautifully rounded, melodic tech house number we just love to imagine hearing whilst being blanketed in UV rays. |

Ed Banger Records will also be doing a showcase, bringing with them SebastiAn, James Pants, Busy P and Breakbot. |
| Posted: 25 Feb 2009 07:32 AM PST Slam's new 'Hot Knives' track ain't exactly intricate; but its unashamedly straight-forward approach to ruining a dancefloor will earn it many spins in the coming weeks. As a tool, it's about as honest and useful as a chimney sweep, guvnor. |
