Can the GMS give WMC a focal point?

Posted: 25 Feb 2009 01:00 AM PST

A Community whisper today alerted us to the (optimistically named) Global Media Summit, which is set to take place on 27th March at South Seas Hotel. Its organisers are touting the GMS as "a one-stop press magnet where the media can find the artists that are making today’s global headlines while the artists can get their messages about their music to the media all in one great event location". Sounds great on paper, as the WMC has for years lacked a focal point for industry networking, however many observers will point out that WMC's business networking ideals are enjoying the peripheries far too much to be centralised.

Video: DJ Hell ‘The Angst’

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 04:11 PM PST

Here's the video for 'The Angst', the first single to be released from DJ Hell's forthcoming album 'Teufelswerk'. Filmed beside a shimmering body of water, the video features poignant images of windswept women moving to the song's slow burning subtlety. Stylistically, it's a classy and delicate approach - one that could only have come from a man who has many years of making music under his belt.

Weekend Weapons…James Zabiela

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 12:16 PM PST

It would be unfair to describe James Zabiela as a wonderkid anymore, as he stepped out of those 'fascinating nu skool DJ' shoes a long time ago to become one of the most enthralling live DJ performers on the planet. His reputation precedes him wherever he goes - his unique skills and mixing wizardry are second to none - but beyond his live remixing and incessant button pushing there is a deeper musical knowledge that almost guarantees every Zabiela set will invariably have some upfront major dancefloor slayers. And indeed James Zabiela's new 'The Masters Series' mix for Renaissance is full of chunky, electro tech records and whopping basslines, but there are also deeper, more graceful moments to the compilation. It is for this very reason that we asked James to take over this week's Weekend Weapons feature. Here are Mr. Zabiela's current big three, in his own words.

Germany's Melt Festival has announced the headliners and line-up for their 2009 edition, which will take place 17th - 19th July at the industrial wasteland of Ferropolis and its five giant coal mining diggers. From Antwerp with love, Josh Wink

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 02:59 AM PST

After Paris, Josh Wink hopped on a train to Antwerp for the next stop of his whirlwind European tour. Now fully immersed in life on the road, he finds himself contemplating all sorts of travel-related weirdness including the digestive benefits of coffee (or cocaine) and the envy one feels towards polygots, and he ends up banging it out harder than usual at Café D’Anvers in the red light district of Antwerp.
