Dessous Classics - Various

With this release we get a triple deep house whammy from the likes of Manuel Tur, Vincenzo and Phonique on the ever-green Dessous Recordings' latest project, Dessous Classics. Wahoo! First up to bat is a Manuel Tur rework of D'Julz 2006 B-side 'Sulo', who updates the original with an added layer of electrified resonance that fluffs its aura and fills in the missing gaps.

Betting on Breakspoll: Beatportal’s analysis

The annual Breakspoll awards always seems to be dominated by the might of Finger Lickin Records who consistently walk away with Best Label, whilst the Plump DJs and Krafty Kuts consecutively pick up the Best Producer and Best DJ awards. Kudos to Breakspoll's organisers then, who have decided to focus their awards ceremony this year on new, upcoming talent within the breaks spectrum. With Breakspoll just round the corner (February 28th), Beatportal's Caleb Rakes decided to investigate some of the potential main contenders up for awards and get their analysis on who they think deserve to win this year. In the first part of our Breakspoll analysis series, we asked ‘Ghetto Jackin’ Baobinga and iBreaks' JMekka to share their opinions.

Touring Europe with Josh Wink

For the next two weeks Philadelphia-based producer and DJ Josh Wink will be blogging live on Beatportal from Europe, where he’s currently touring to promote his new album ‘When A Banana Was Just A Banana’ out on his own label Ovum Recordings (listen to it in the player). Mr. Wink has promised to discuss a number of important DJ-related topics via his blog, including, believe it or not, the economy. In his first dispatch from Barcelona, Josh admits he has mixed feelings regarding traveling with a laptop versus a few pieces of gear, and debriefs us on the many topics covered at dinner with his pals Paco Osuna and Davide Squillace.
