BeatDetect gets an upgrade

Posted: 13 Feb 2009 10:32 AM CST

A few weeks ago we launched a new section on Beatportal called BeatDetect that allows users to upload video clips and MP3s of tracks that they are desperate to name. Today BeatDetect received another upgrade, which will harness the wisdom of the crowd. We've added a voting system so that anybody can 'Up' or 'Down' an ID request, which will further filter out the clap trap and allow the true diamonds to shine. Submit your ID requests, help others find their dream dancefloor weapons, and get voting at: http://www.beatportal.com/beatdetect/

For the next two weeks Philadelphia-based producer and DJ Josh Wink will be blogging live on Beatportal from Europe, where he’s currently touring to promote his new album ‘When A Banana Was Just A Banana’ out on his own label Ovum Recordings (listen to it in the player). Mr. Wink has promised to discuss a number of important DJ-related topics via his blog, including, believe it or not, the economy. Posted: 13 Feb 2009 07:14 AM CST

We figured it was high time to take a sneak peek inside the DJ box of Olivier Giacomotto, currently one of the hottest electro house DJs on the circuit. With a discography that dates back over ten years and chart smashing collaborations with John Acquaviva on his Definitive Recordings imprint, Giacomotto further established his name last year when he received a nomination for Best Electro House Artist in the 2008 BMAs. He has ridden that success into 2009, with his recent 'Guacamoli / Locomotto' double tracker storming dancefloors worldwide. We sat down with the Frenchman and his record box, and asked him all sorts of important DJ questions.

You have to feel sorry for these guys. A huge water pipe burst, just a few hours before the grand unveiling of the new Dice club in Berlin, causing the venue's basement to flood. "We have to skip the main floor opening parties this weekend," said a spokeperson from Dice. "We were very much looking forward to presenting you the main floor of our club, but unfortunately we have to cancel."

The Way - Pole Folder

Posted: 12 Feb 2009 06:18 PM CST

A true master of the progressive house scene, Pole Folder aka Benoit Franquet, is the epitome of the genre's once perceived sophisticated mysticism. Resolutely loyal to prog's dark hypnotism, Franquet's meticulous attention to detail and multi-layered approach to electronic music is all the more bold in an era of minimal pervasiveness.

Landslide - Amaning & Stunna

Posted: 12 Feb 2009 03:58 PM CST

BS1 Records has been an important lynch pin for the more underground aspect of Bristol d&b, but it isn’t a name you'd immediately associate within the city's scene when compared with the likes of Full Cycle and Chronic. Yet this label run by Kubiks and Davide Carbone has been responsible for some massive releases over the past nine years, including releasing some of the first tracks TC ever produced, as well as tracks by Lomax, Rufige Kru and Heist.
