Feature: Afternoon tea with Boyz Noize Posted: 10 Feb 2009 03:39 PM CST Whether or not you're on board with the breakneck indie/dance fusion that has gripped clubland in recent years, you will no doubt have been drowned, at some point, in a sea of Boys Noize. Beatportal's Polly Lavin sat down in Berlin with Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize for a wide-ranging chat about punk attitudes, Chicago house and producers who are missing the point.
Posted: 10 Feb 2009 03:06 PM CST Here's the official Border Community video for Luke Abbott's twinkle-anthem 'Melody120' (featured on the delightful 'Tuesday EP'), as created by Luke's friend Michael Page. Like the most palatable science lesson you have ever experienced, the video brings the process of the water cycle to life via Michael's cutesy animation style. Watch this video on Beatportal

Posted: 10 Feb 2009 12:13 PM CST Dinamoe is 23 year-old German producer who, for the last couple of years, has been baking the sort of skeletal, bleep-riden techno you could a imagine a hungry Davide Squillace or Paco Osuna devouring. The Stakes EP is in no way a departure from the sound Dinamoe has been resolutely pushing for the last couple of years, rather a variation on the theme that brings enough new ideas to the fore in order to maintain his forward momentum.
Video: Rex The Dog ‘Bubblicious’ Posted: 10 Feb 2009 10:49 AM CST Here's the video for Rex The Dog's recent electro hit 'Bubblicious', featuring groovy little cardboard cut outs singing and playing synths. Watch this video on Beatportal
Deadmau5 launches iPhone DJ app Posted: 10 Feb 2009 09:57 AM CST Canadian star Deadmau5 has put his name next to a new iPhone/iPod touch revolutionary app that allows you to mix his music. Touch Mix could also be a forerunner to how DJing software on the platform should work.
Does Manhattan need a dedicated club district? Posted: 10 Feb 2009 07:41 AM CST Club owners behind some of Manhattan's biggest clubs and lounges have teamed up to present the idea of creating a dedicated nightlife district in Manhattan, much like New Orleans' Bourbon Street area. New York City's nightlife scene has been suffering over the last few years thanks to overzealous attention from authorities and noise complaints, and some feel the only solution is to now earmark a corner of Manhattan where nightclub owners and party people could get on with it, safe in the knowledge that no neighbors or police will be upset.
Posted: 10 Feb 2009 03:45 AM CST In a shrewd move that will be no doubt welcomed by the label's many fans, German imprint Innervisions are offering a full subscription service to their entire 2009 catalogue. Available in either vinyl only, CD only or both, the package will contain singles from label mainstays Ame, Marcus Worgull, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz in addition to the latest release under the Secret Weapons banner from Oscar G., DJ Gregory, Kalabrese and Jark Prongo.
Posted: 10 Feb 2009 03:22 AM CST Long time mixtape master and lover of the rare groove, Manchester's Mr. Scruff drops the week's Essential Mix on Radio 1 -- a blend of funk, soul, disco, house and more, all wrapped up in a big ol' old skool bow. One of Manchester's finest, this Ninja Tune regular has held a 'Keep It Unreal' residency in Manchester for 10+ years and is known for his eclectic tastes and marathon seven-hour sets. In this mix we get a smorgasbord of everyone from Theo Parrish, to the Ragga Twins, to James Brown, and back to the Scruff man himself.
Popof has a softer side, apparently Posted: 09 Feb 2009 06:37 PM CST French hard man Popof has become synonymous with driving electro-tinged techno, so Beatportal was rather shocked to hear his forthcoming single 'Serenity' today, which sounds like a cross between a soft James Holden and a floppy Gui Boratto (that's a good thing).
