First Impressions: Anthony Collins ‘Doubts & Shouts’ Posted: 09 Feb 2009 03:37 PM CST French house producer Anthony Collins has been steadily coming to light from the dark shadows of the underground, with over 40 productions under his belt in a mere three years on imprints like Get Physical Music, Liebe Detail, Cecille and Curle Recordings. Today we gave his debut full-length 'Doubts & Shouts' on esteemed Freak 'N' Chic a spin and can confirm it's managed to further edify his status as a talented producer in the underground circuit.
Posted: 09 Feb 2009 02:22 PM CST Way back in June 2007, Beatportal organised a remix competition with Scottish techno duo Slam for their single 'We're Not Here', and one of the runners up was a guy named Michael Weldon from Glasgow. Since then, Weldon aka Mr. Copy, has built up a good relationship with Slam and Soma, and 18 months later one of his tracks is being featured on the label's fresh talent 'Somabeta 002' compilation. 'Derive' is an absolute belter of a techno tune.

Posted: 09 Feb 2009 12:31 PM CST Our Weekend Weapons feature this week sees a long overdue representation of the dubstep scene in the form of Bristol's Appleblim. Darling of both the dubstep and techno camps, Laurie 'Appleblim' Osbourne has found himself at the very epicenter of the creatively fertile middle ground between these musical kissing cousins. Most famed for his starring role alongside Shackleton in the running of, and releasing on, the now defunct Skull Disco imprint, the pair outputted an exemplary body of 10 next-level EPs that gleefully smashed their way out of any genre box they were placed in.
Daft Punk and Justice score Grammys Posted: 09 Feb 2009 10:53 AM CST At last night's Grammys French duo Daft Punk scooped two gongs, winning a Dance Recording award for their single 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' and an award for Electronic Dance Album with 'Alive 2007'. Electro live act Justice won the Remixed Recording category for their rework of MGMT's 'Electric Feel'.
Don’t Be So Drumattic - Drumattic Twins Posted: 09 Feb 2009 07:05 AM CST Finger Lickin' rarely miss a beat when it comes to breaks, and you only have to look back through their history of over 100 releases to see that each record is a genuine classic. The Drumattic Twins have been responsible for quite a lot of those as well as a few big rave anthems under their previous moniker Shades of Rhythm, and with this slice cut from their forthcoming album they've really turned up the heat.
London gets its own dubstep festival. Kinda. Posted: 09 Feb 2009 04:22 AM CST Ok, so it's not quite a 'festival', but the organisers behind the forthcoming London dubstep club night 'Why Not' think that having 30 of the genre's biggest names affords them such a fanciful title. With Pinch, Hatcha, Loefah, Ramadanman, Pangaea, Headhunter and TRG included on the line-up, dubstep fans won't probably mind living in tents and eating mud to be there, except 'Why Not' is taking place at Scala, right in the middle of King's Cross. And we wouldn't recommend camping out in King's Cross. Ever.
My Own Disillusion EP - Monojoke Posted: 08 Feb 2009 06:24 PM CST Monojoke's 'Disillusion' EP is great forward thinking progressive house, which is something of a rarity these days. Warm, panoramic synthesizers and pads cloak the Polish producer's music with rich melancholic textures, and the essential euphoric build of the genre is razor sharp here.
