Beatport nominated in 2009 IDMAs

The IDMAs, or International Dance Music Awards, have disclosed their official list of nominees, and once again Beatport is in the running. Beatport has won 'Best Dance Music Specialty Retailer' for three years in a row, and we'd like to continue our winning streak by asking you to vote for us. The awards ceremony takes place as part of the annual Winter Music Conference (WMC) held in Miami, Florida, long regarded as the industry’s and fans’ premier networking event for the dance music industry held in the United States. There are 49 categories which aim to award outstanding achievements to industry leaders, so if you love Beatport, please give us your vote!

Feature: The return of Milton Jackson’s mojo

What a difference a release can make. After being on the verge of an early retirement from music making, Glaswegian producer Milton Jackson was persuaded by Freerange Records to not throw in the towel and instead produce a track for the UK label's upcoming 100th release. The result of their faith was 'Ghosts In My Machine', a track that smashed Miami and Ibiza, and was perhaps the biggest Milton Jackson record to date. On the strength of the release that Jackson says "got my mojo working again", Freerange asked him to record an album and one year later, 'Crash' arrived (listen to the album's teaser EP in the player).

Adam Beyer rediscovers older works

Beatportal chatted with Swedish techno DJ Adam Beyer yesterday, who revealed that after digging around his studio in Stockholm recently he re-discovered some early tracks of his that he now plans to release on his label Drumcode. "The oldest one dates back to 2005 and is a third version of the Plus 8 project that I did," said Beyer.

Beatport Pool Party 2009 line-up

We're now officially allowed to reveal the line-up thus far of the Beatport Pool Party for Miami's Winter Music Conference 2009. The four-day party will take place from 26th - 29th March at The National Hotel (Remix Hotel) on South Beach. And with a line-up this good, you'd be a fool to miss it. Time to book those plane tickets and apply the fake tan.

James Zabiela named resident of Matter

More details about Matter's 2009 plans emerged this week, when James Zabiela was named a resident DJ of the cavernous venue at The 02 in London. Under the banner of Positronic, Zabiela will play in the main room alongside some of his favourite guest DJs, whilst Room 2 will see up and comers play.

Global Underground’s Nubreed returns with Jim Rivers

After a seven year break, DJ compilation giant Global Underground will resurrect their Nubreed mix series with British up and comer Jim Rivers having been lassoed for the first installment. In the past, Global Underground's Nubreed CDs have helped to break the careers of some rather big DJs including Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge, Anthony Papa and Satoshi Tomiie.
