| Feature: Jesse Rose does his debut Posted: 20 Jan 2009 09:47 AM CST Together with Dave Taylor aka Switch/Solid Groove, Jesse Rose was one of the main figures behind the sample and bassline-heavy UK house sound which caused a storm in clubs three years ago. Like any hype, the one surrounding fidget house (as it was labeled back then) eventually blew over, leaving a good number of producers trying to emulate a sound which of course became formulaic and stale. His debut album, ‘What Do You Do If You Don’t?’, which took Jesse Rose nearly three years to finish, is a step into another, more matured direction. |

| Posted: 19 Jan 2009 06:12 PM CST This week BBC Radio 1 takes us back to the old school, with a debut Essential Mix from Manchester's legendary club music pioneer, Greg Wilson. With influences that run from Herbie Hancock through to African Bambaataa, Wilson was responsible for spearheading electro-funk in the early '80s in Manchester, and after a long hiatus returned to the scene only in 2003. For a jaunt down a very diverse memory lane, check out this mix -- a Frankie Knuckles mix of Rufus and Chaka Khan, the Stone Roses, 808 State and even the Commodores all conspire to rock it steady. |
