Cubase’s iPhone app

One of the biggest surprises to have dropped during day 1 of NAMM 2009 was news of Steinberg's remote control iPhone app for Cubase, called Cubase RC. The app will run on an iPhone or iPod Touch and connects via Wi-Fi.

Ministry of Sound to host monthy NYC events

British clubbing giant Ministry of Sound has announced that at the end of January it will begin hosting monthly parties in New York City at 530 West 28th St (formerly Mansion). Look out Pacha. Ministry of Sound, which is the world's biggest dance brand, recently opened an office in New York, and the party on January 30th 2009 is the first major event to have come out of the Stateside venture.

Brit government wants 70 db limit in venues

Live music fans and clubbers in Britain are currently petitioning the government over its plans to introduce sound control devices as a legal requirement for entertainment venues. Although unconfirmed at this point, the organisers behind the online petition believe the devices cut-off point will be "dreadfully low", at around 70 dB.

Records Back - Hardy Hard, Lady Waks and Mr.X

Hardy Hard and Lady Waks stormed to the front of modern day breakbeat back in 2007 with their cheeky parody on 'Minimal' music - the Rogue Element remix ended up becoming one of the biggest breakbeat anthems of that year. Now they’re back with a party breaks tune that has a similar note structure to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Sexyback’, and comes with a storming nu-skool breaks remix from Robosapiens. This time they attack laptop DJs.

Native Instruments unveils Maschine

Today at NAMM 2009, Native Instruments unveiled its new Maschine, "a next-generation groove production studio that makes beat creation and arrangement more immediate and tactile than ever before." The system is a combination of software and an outboard controller, which is seamlessly integrated. The idea is that the groove production process is as easy as the days of analogue drum machines, but the power, stability and flexibility of software is available too. Yes, when we saw it a little bit of wee came out too.

Native Instruments introduces Audio 4 DJ

Today at the NAMM show Native Instruments unveiled their cheaper USB 2.0 audio interface for Traktor, called Audio 4 DJ. It's basically a half version of NI's famed Audio 8 DJ interface.
