If your grandma went clubbing, she might write this Posted: 15 Jan 2009 01:58 PM CST Bless the Daily Mail newspaper, and its voice of 'Middle England'. Recently the paper's 65-year-old columnist Joanna Trollope, visited a 'funky house' music club event in order to understand the "impenetrably foreign" world of modern dance music for a character in her new novel, Friday Nights. Her findings, which were printed on the newspaper's website at the end of December, are rather amusing. It's the kind of thing your grandma might have written, had she decided to go clubbing to see what all the fuss was about.
Amsterdam’s Club 11 crew to open Trouw Posted: 15 Jan 2009 10:56 AM CST Kristian Beyer from Ame posted a note yesterday about a new club coming from the folks behind Amsterdam's now defunct Club11. In his blog post, Kristian reveals that Club 11's former owners Olaf and Daan have found a new location in the centre of the city, which used to house Dutch daily newspaper Trouw. Trouw began life as a Dutch resistance paper during World War II. The new club is earmarked to open at the end of February.
Posted: 15 Jan 2009 06:20 AM CST The rise of Synkro through the ranks has been relatively subtle, with a few releases scattered between the Smoking Sessions and Dubbed Out labels. With these few releases under his belt Synkro has already managed to scratch out a characteristic sound leaning towards old school garage, whilst simultaneously showcasing his heavy Burial influence.
Posted: 15 Jan 2009 03:43 AM CST Roska Kick & Snares is an excellent name for a record label, especially considering label boss Roska sticks so closely to the theme. Here on his 'Elevated Levels EP' there's nothing to be found but solid-as-granite house loops, but the music is like a weird cross between speed garage, dubstep and house. No wonder then, that Roska is a proper Londoner and a former UK garage boy.
Posted: 14 Jan 2009 09:09 PM CST James Zabiela has revealed the tracklist for his forthcoming entry to the Renaissance Master series over on his blog for the label. As you might have gathered from his previous entry, the mix is peppered with field recording gathered from the British jock carrying around a microtrak recorder for a month during the making of the album. Zabiela has offered detailed thoughts and feelings on his mix and made the first 20 minutes available a few weeks back to whet the appetite pre-release.

Posted: 14 Jan 2009 05:01 PM CST It's always exciting to stumble across some fresh, forward-thinking electro house, and this superb, bass-in-your-face rework of Wasbi's 'Dirty Disco Lovr' by Cape Town resident The Bulgarian (the first track in the player), takes things down a more fun, less arpeggiated path with a stripped back, rolling electro groove. Phat, it is.
