Create Digital Music Winter 08 guide

Posted: 12 Dec 2008 03:45 PM CST

Create Digital Music is one of our favorite online resources for tech minutiae, with coverage of everything from hands-on circuit bending to obscure gear gossip. They even have an entire area devoted to Native Instruments' Kore platform. Longtime CDM readers know that the blog's creator, Peter Kirn, is a huge fan of open source, DIY and plain ol' free stuff. So to commemorate the holiday season, he's rounded up a crew of contributors to create the first annual Create Digital Music Winter 08 guide. Available as either a free downloadable PDF or a full-on coffee table book, the guide is a terrific resource.

2008 according to…Martyn

Posted: 12 Dec 2008 08:00 AM CST

It would be fair to say that no other producer had quite the impact on their respective scene this year than Marytn, our top dubstep artist of 2008. The murky world of dubstep was shaken to its very core by the Dutch producer's bass driven, techno infused cuts, although ironically, he would sooner call his sound 'Martyn music' than be tied down by any genre related tags. "2008 has been a very very important year for me both personally as well as musically," Martyn tells Beatportal. "I moved from The Netherlands to the USA which was a really inspiring step. Being in a country where you basically can only accomplish something by working harder than the rest, I managed to build a small studio, make a lot of new music and get my label started properly."

Kronix - Culture Shock

Posted: 11 Dec 2008 01:33 PM CST

Featured earlier this year on the fourth installment of Andy C’s 'Nightlife' series, this track is perhaps one of the most unique tunes to come out of the drum & bass scene this year. With more emphasis on its 4/4 structure and less on the breakbeats, this offering from d&b new boy Culture Shock washes over, sounding like a hybrid between Etienne De Crecy and Sub Focus.
