The Prodigy’s free download disappoints Posted: 26 Nov 2008 03:23 PM CST After the announcement a couple of weeks back that The Prodigy's new LP 'Invaders Must Die' will be released at the beginning of March, the band have decided to fan the flames of hype with a free download of the album's title track. 'Invaders Must Die' became available to download from the band's website just a few minutes ago, and will be up till December 3rd. Our initial thoughts? It's a bit of a disappointment.

London breakbeat orchestra return Posted: 26 Nov 2008 11:13 AM CST Breakbeat as a genre lost a lot of momentum a year or two ago, as the scene merged with electro house and a lot of breaks producers started dabbling with 4/4. The scene failed to attract new blood and a lot of breaks DJs complained there was not enough fresh tunes being made to keep the sound hopping. But one of the most interesting breaks-related acts to appear during this downtime is the London Breakbeat Orchestra, a 30-piece band who squeeze on stage with violins, violas, cellos, flutes, trumpets and a whole load of instruments to play breakbeat live. They'll be performing at London's Cargo in Shoreditch on Saturday 6th December, and it's probably one of the only times you'll be able to wear jeans and a t-shirt, and dance your socks off to an orchestra.
Posted: 26 Nov 2008 09:02 AM CST The sleeve notes to this album say it all: ‘Dedicated to 2BadMice, Shut Up & Dance, Lennie De Ice, Slipmatt...’, the list goes on, but you get the point: this is an homage to the early nineties rave movement in the UK. With Zomby's previous hits on Hyperdub and Ramp you might have been expecting a dark, chunky dubstep offering. Well don’t.
Deadmau5 releases sample CD for producers Posted: 26 Nov 2008 04:08 AM CST In a twist that might seem counterproductive to building a unique artist sound, Deadmau5 and his longtime studio partner Steve Duda have put together a CD-ROM packed full of 100% royalty-free samples for music producers to use in their own tracks. Some would say it's a charitable gesture, considering the burgeoning international profile of Deadmau5 and the influential releases of their BSOD project. If you asked aspiring producers worldwide to name the top 5 producers they most want to sound like for instance, you can bet Deadmau5 would be in there.

Posted: 25 Nov 2008 08:44 PM CST Triebstoff has long held a reputation for high-quality, groove-heavy techno and tech-house - indeed, the label was the first to be distributed by electronic behemoth Kompakt, nearly ten years ago. This new outing from 'John Keys' is in fact the work of Chilean masters Dandy Jack and Andre Garcia, who last popped up together on Crosstown Rebels with the excellent 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Tsedong?'.
Orbital to reform for Big Chill festival live set Posted: 25 Nov 2008 05:22 PM CST British dance veterans Orbital have announced that they will reform for a one-off live show at The Big Chill festival in the UK in August 2009. After 10 years of being at the top of dance music the Hartnoll brothers went their separate ways in 2004, much to the dismay of the electronic music community - over the years Orbital released a large volume of electronic music, some of which to this day remains influential and anthemic. "We’ve never said never," Paul Hartnoll said, with regards to the fact people thought Orbital were confined to the history books. "It’s something I suspected would happen, which is why we kept hold of certain key bits of odd equipment...there have been slight rumblings about getting back together before but it didn’t feel good. This time it just felt right."
