Tattoo Detectives split citing ‘creative differences’

Posted: 25 Nov 2008 11:18 AM CST

US techno and electro house duo Tattoo Detectives aka Gabriel Ben and Lance Blaise announced yesterday that their three-year partnership was over, citing creative differences. The profile of the Carl Cox and Paul Van Dyk supported pair began to rise in 2006 with the release of 'She Bleeps 'N Bloops', and subsequent releases on Playloop Records and Blaise's own Teggno Records suggested the duo were becoming one of the strongest new double acts in the States. The multi-genre output of the Tattoo Detectives certainly hinted there were opposing forces at work in the studio however.

New Noise Apps for iPhone

Posted: 25 Nov 2008 07:00 AM CST

Since the release of the iPhone 2.0 operating system, Amidio Inc. has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on a pair of iPhone apps for EDM producers. We covered the initial pre-announcement of Noise.io a while back, but it looks like the finished product (iTunes link) is a real gem. Noise.io’s (pictured above) ESFM synthesis tools are a combination both FM and subtractive synthesis technology, kind of like a simpler version of Ableton’s Operator, with a sci-fi interface.

Coco Brown / La Riddum - Scott Grooves

Posted: 25 Nov 2008 04:21 AM CST

Coming from Detroit and having hung out at the legendary Music Institute club, one would expect the music of Scott Grooves to be techno, but he chose a more soulful, musical path to that of his local clinical contemporaries. Having played the keyboards for Kevin Saunderson's Inner City back in the day, Scott Grooves' love for musicality shines through once again on his new 12-inch on Clone Records, 'Coco Brown / La Riddum'.

RobertaFlack - Flying Lotus

Posted: 24 Nov 2008 09:49 PM CST

To start off with, ‘RobertaFlack’ had to be the stand out track from Flying Lotus’s phenomenal ‘Los Angeles’ album - its stunning ambience and soothing vocals took me back to my ‘Blue Lines’ days. To then have this track remixed by Martyn, the king of everything that is heavenly and deep, is like pairing up the wonders of John and Paul, Kris and Kross, or Marmite with toast.

Prepare to be dazzled. Click through for the full tracklist (tracks available on Beatport are linked) and the link to listen to Loco Dice's Essential Mix.

This week's Weekend Weapons feature comes from San Francisco's tech house don, Claude VonStroke. Claude was kind enough to share his current top three dancefloor destroyers with the Beatportal community. Over to Claude.
