New searches for New York’s clubs

Posted: 13 Nov 2008 12:43 PM CST

On Friday June 27th 2008, something changed in New York City. In the space of just 24 hours, 11 nightclubs and bars were raided by police and forced to close, seven in Manhattan and four in Brooklyn. The timing couldn't have been worse for Pacha, Marquee, Splash and the other shuttered venues - Gay Pride weekend was taking place, typically one of the busiest weekends of the year for New York's clubs. It was a night of nuisance abatements; the punishment New York's authorities dish out to establishments that supposedly “endanger public health and safety” by "allowing" illegal drug sales, prostitution or gambling. Xavier de Rosnay of the band said "On the album, [†], we maybe sampled 400 records."

Posted: 13 Nov 2008 03:16 AM CST

M.A.N.D.Y.'s tour of the Americas continues, taking the Get Physical duo to southern climes where they experience the permeating warmth of Latin culture. In this latest installment of their video tour diary, we find them in the Dominican Republic conducting a radio interview at a local station and later at that night's set in Santo Domingo. It goes without saying that no less than utter madness could be expected from these two, judging from what happened on their last tour that Beatportal's Industry Boy covered in his live blog. Click through for an additional, NSFW video of them in which Patrick gives a firsthand account of a proposition he received from a fan, as well as some other visual surprises. There's also a flickr slideshow of their most recent goings on.
