Pete Tong’s ‘Tong Factor’ and Top 10 DJ chart

Posted: 15 Oct 2008 05:57 PM CDT

As Britain's long serving ambassador to dance music, Pete Tong has helped the careers of countless DJs and artists by breaking them on his influential BBC Radio 1 show, the Essential Selection. Now Pete Tong is taking his role as a tastemaker more seriously than ever - during his upcoming North American tour, the DJ will host his very own Simon Cowell-inspired talent search called the 'Tong Factor'. Over the course of his two week tour (October 21st - November 1st) Mr. Tong is asking aspiring North American producers to hand him demos on CDs or USB sticks at his club gigs. "It's a hands on talent search," Pete Tong told Beatportal. "I always get given lots of music when I tour USA and Canada so I thought this time we would make it more official."

The Crystal Method celebrates tour with free download

Posted: 15 Oct 2008 04:20 PM CDT

Long time veterans of the electronic music scene, The Crystal Method have been hard at work for over a decade and are still going strong, about to release a fourth studio album due out early next year, as well as launching a 30-date North American tour. Back in 1994 they released their first single, 'Now is the Time', which was originally a popular slogan for the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Now, decades later, we're seeing a resurgence of that same sentiment in the campaign of presidential nominee Barack Obama, echoed visually in the wildly popular political artwork of Shepard Fairey. Just in time for the November 2008 U.S. presidential election, the Crystal Method have reworked the song with a sample from Obama’s “Now is the time…” statement from his speech, and have made it available as a free download on their site. You can also see a corresponding, revised version of Fairey's Obama portrait logo there. Click through for further tour details and a quote from the Method boys about the track.

Beautiful Strange - Nick Muir and John Digweed

Posted: 15 Oct 2008 12:55 AM CDT

Something quite bizarre is happening with modern dance music. It seems the days of uplifting breakdowns and dancing with a blissful smile on your face are fading away, replaced by something much more terrifying. Even the folks at Bedrock Records seem to be taking a turn into the darkest depths of sonic wizardry, and this remix from label head honcho, John Digweed (w/ Nick Muir as Bedrock), is a glimpse into dance music's darkest realms.
