News | An interview with the director of Berlin Calling: Hannes Stoehr

Posted: 12 Sep 2008 10:25 AM CDT

Berlin Calling is a melodramatic tragic comedy set in the world's most recognizable and bustling hub of dance music activity today. It is brilliantly done as it depicts Berlin’s underground techno scene, with DJ Ickarus at the centre of it all. From Bar 25 and Maria Club, to scenes from Alexanderplatz U-bahn station, the film Berlin Calling certainly makes no disguise of the place, and Berlin is a real character. Reality is what is aimed at and achieved by director Hannes Stoehr in his third feature length film. In conversation with Hannes after his appearance and the screening of Berlin Calling during the Toronto International Film Festival, Hannes explained a bit more about the making of Berlin Calling.

News | Review: North American premiere of Berlin Calling with Paul Kalkbrenner

Posted: 11 Sep 2008 10:34 PM CDT

Sunday night in Toronto during the Toronto International Film Festival in the heart of downtown (Little Italy to be exact), Paul Kalkbrenner stood outside of the Royal Theatre as people lined up to go inside. He, as the star actor, along with film director Hannes Stohr of the new film Berlin Calling, waited in anticipation of the North American premiere of their film. The rogue screening organizers, Platform Events and Xanuradio.com were bustling around – promoting, and doing press releases and media outreach - earlier that week up until the last minute to ensure that things went smoothly. That night as people entered the theatre and seats began to fill, the anticipation started to dissipate. It was clear that the screening would be well-attended by electronic music fans in Toronto.
