News | Eric Prydz ‘Pjanoo’ set for No.2 in UK charts

Eric Prydz is a master of timing. His single 'Pjanoo' is set to smash into the UK charts this week at No.2, after destroying dancefloors in Ibiza for the last few weeks. Originally released on Happy Music, 'Pjanoo' became a hot record for DJs like Pete Tong on the island, and now that the record has been snapped up by Ministry of Sound's sub label Data the charts beckon. This could be Eric Prydz' third UK Top 10 record, as 'Call On Me' and 'Proper Education' reached No.1 and No.2 consecutively.

News | Feel the Dream promotes freedom

Feel the Dream, a Brighton-based creative collective and non-profit organization, is celebrating the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech this Wednesday, August 28th in what will be a collaborative and coordinated global event. On August 28th and throughout the following weekend, a global network of at least 250 DJs worldwide have united and agreed to work into their DJ sets the house music classic from 1987, Mr Fingers’ (aka Larry Heard) ‘Can You Feel It’ which samples Dr. King's speech, in a pledge to proactively celebrate freedom.

Videos | Mr C in “happy slapping” attack?

Out of the blue, at the end of last week a video surfaced on You-Tube which appears to show Shamen legend and End / Superfreq head honcho Mr C defending himself against an attack by a group of random youths. So was Mr C the latest victim of a the British craze known as "happy slapping" [randomly running up to a complete stranger and slapping them across the face] - or is there more to this than meets the eye? You would have thought that with a name like Steve Bug, the Poker Flat boss would embrace arachnids, furry creepy looking insects and the like. You'd imagine his bed is some sort of coffin filled with eight-legged beasts. But it turns out Steve Bug is shit scared of spiders, especially those found in Australia.

1995 was a good year for drum and bass (or jungle, as many people still called it back then). Even though most people probably think of Goldie's groundbreaking and commercially successful debut album ’Timeless', there was another album, that shook (not just) the drum and bass world that year: A Guy Called Gerald's ’Black Secret Technology', which came out six months prior to ’Timeless'. Thirteen years after its inital release, the album got re-released and is also available digitally for the first time [check it out in the player after the jump].

As an international offshoot of New York's DFA, Berlin-based Supersoul Recordings releases its debut, double CD compilation album titled, 'Nobody Knows Anything' - a collection of genre-blending tracks compiled from their vinyl and digital releases in the first two years of the label's existence. Headed by Xaver Naudasher, this debut release pulls inspiration from the foundations of electronic music, creating a wide and divergent mix of Krautrock, italo-disco, and electro, tinged with Chicago and Detroit influences.

If you didn't make it to Cologne's excellent techno festival C/O Pop last week, here's a video blog of the event that we found online. Produced by a guy called Elenko, the video gives a good overall feeling of what it was like to go to C/O Pop Festival, and includes a lot of the mundane aspects of the attendance including the travel, beer and food.

News | Sony to cause train wrecks with Xross Fade iPod mix system

Sony may be the brains behind the Walkman, but their new "DJ style music system" Xross Fade will surely fail. Designed for mixing between two iPods, the $500 system doesn't come anywhere close to offering to what the company claims is a system that allows DJs to "Mix two songs or fade into the next song without missing a beat." For a start, the system doesn't offer any pitch control over tracks played from iPods, so unless you're some kind of freak who enjoys train wrecks the Xross Fade is pretty useless.

In a tense moment, these masters of suspense cut the rhythm out completely and build it back as they work the crowd to maximum effect, finally dropping the bass and letting off some of that charged energy.
