| News | Bora Bora’s big improvement Posted: 10 Aug 2008 07:08 PM CDT Back in June Beatportal visited Bora Bora Beach Bar in Ibiza's Playa D'en Bossa and wrote "it's lost much of its original vibe...it's lost its freedom," but yesterday a return visit left us feeling much more upbeat. It was rammed full of crazy party people having a wicked time, and there was a full on party going on at 5pm. The moody security guards could still be seen patrolling around the venue, and you probably would have been told off for trying to dance on a table, but that didn't stop the crowd from getting into the groove. |
| News | Who will get your vote for the 2008 DJ Awards? Posted: 10 Aug 2008 07:05 PM CDT I always wonder how much the DJ Awards truly reflect public opinion. What counts in the end anyway? Is it popular mass appeal that most artists want? I think seasoned knowledgeable credibility amongst music enthusiasts and musicians still counts. This year the DJ Awards has announced some of the nominees for various categories of music that Beatport also likes to pay attention to. In the Minimal Category, contenders are not all that surprising considering the massive talent they represent both individually and collectively. |
| News | Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein found Posted: 10 Aug 2008 04:05 PM CDT The world's biggest manhunt finally came to an end yesterday when British special forces found Osama bin Laden, the founder of jihadist organization Al-Qaeda, hiding in a dance music bunker on a beach in Spain. In a bizarre turn of events, former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was also found during the operation, putting an end to the widely-held belief that he was executed on December 30th, 2006. Senior US military officials said the joint US and British operation, dubbed Operation Bora Bora, "was an overwhelming success". "Every one thought that Saddam Hussein had been executed, but clearly that's not the case, as we caught him having a beer with Osama bin Laden," said the British S.A.S. captain credited with the capture. "They seemed shocked, and rather upset when we cut their party short, as can be seen from the photograph we took immediately before they were handcuffed." The S.A.S. squadron said the operation would have been a failure had they not found inspiration in the recent EP 'We Got Him / Where Is Osama' by Peter Presta. See the photo and hear the inspiring music after the jump. |
| News | Popular D&B track: ‘Turn Up The Sun’ Posted: 10 Aug 2008 03:52 PM CDT The electro-house style drum & bass revolution gathers pace with this brazen, uplifting number, laced with grit and grime, distorted, funky guitars and a hell of a lot of dance-floor clout. Baron is one of the nicest guys on the D&B circuit, and it's no doubt that this respected producer has been influenced by the summer rays in the creation of this Jekyll-and-Hide experiment. |
