News | Sascha Funke’s DJ chart

Posted: 23 Jul 2008 09:36 PM CDT

Sascha Funke is part of the Bpitch family, and he's one of the few producers living in the Berlin who is actually a real Berliner. His style of techno is dark and foreboding, but there's always a shimmering, ethereal edge to his music that comes through via intricate melodies. Sascha Funke recently uploaded a DJ set to Beatport ahead of his appearance at Cologne's C/O Pop Festival, that perfectly encapsulates his special sound.

News | Melt Festival: Pan/Tone’s Survival Guide 101

Posted: 23 Jul 2008 05:08 PM CDT

Beatport caught up with Pan/Tone, an artist who played at Melt Festival several years previously, and truly a veteran of the Melt Festival to share his festival survival tips with us. Last year Pan/Tone played in his project Cereal/Killers along with Jake Fairley, Ada, and Metope. Pan/Tone's sound has often been associated with 'rockno' - a fusion between indie rock and techno. He's got unique tracks out on great minimal techno labels such as Sub Static, Sender, Trapez, and he continues to produce music today. His forthcoming album called 'Skip the Foreplay' will be coming out on September 12th on the Cereal/Killers label, distributed via Kompakt and Beatport for digital release. Over his festival years, and through trial and error Pan/Tone learned about how to handle these festivals. This year he did everything right.

News | Hardfloor’s Tales Of The Unexpected

Posted: 23 Jul 2008 12:12 PM CDT

Acid heroes Hardfloor have had their fair share of comebacks over the years, and sure enough, they're back again with a new mix CD for former British trance bastion Platipus. As you'd expect from this pair of hoary rave veterans, the mix focuses on lost classics and analogue gems from the last 15 or so years - but there's also a smattering of fresh talent that proves the duo are still up on what's going down.

News | Melt Festival - Challenges and Magical Moments

Posted: 23 Jul 2008 05:29 AM CDT

Melt festival featured a wide range of groups, including many bands such as Franz Ferdinand, The Whitest Boy Alive, Bjork, and Boyz Noize, who are popular amongst any music fan who hasn’t been living under a rock! A great line up of electronic music acts on the Big Wheel Stage were also featured: Gui Boratto, Modeselektor, Ellen Allien, Supermayer, Cobblestone Jazz, Mathew Johnson, Henrik Schwarz, Mathias Kaden, Efdemin, Len Faki, and Steve Bug. With such a diverse line-up and five huge stages, it was often overwhelming to get from one stage to another or to meet up with friends. Throw in some mud, rain, and open air stages and things can get quite messy. But despite the mud, magical times with music were found.

News | Keymasters and Marshmellow Men: Interview with Chymera and Jody Wisternoff

Posted: 23 Jul 2008 12:50 AM CDT

The bottom tip of the sun had just kissed the Miami horizon, the groovy bassline to Francois Dubois' remix of 'Dark Star' had just kicked into full gear, and the Sasha and Digweed boat party was officially under way. As bobbing heads sipped what seemed to be unending different flavors of vodkas and dance royalty rubbed elbows with the common folk, a chance meeting took place that would spark one of the summer's hottest releases. Talking with fellow producers, and being constantly interrupted by panting girls begging to pose with him, this was just another day in the life of Bristol's Jody Wisternoff [pictured]. His hair slicked back into his now signature pony tail, tequila in hand, he posed in many a photo that day.

Think again: we've cooked up a special video exposing the alternative side to Beatport, featuring interviews and live performances from crazy Icelandic band Mugison. It's a taster of the diversity at this year's Iceland Airwaves music festival, which sponsored the event where this feature was filmed.
