Dennis Ferrer Essential Mix bridges the gap Posted: 17 Nov 2008 03:41 PM CST US house producer Dennis Ferrer's recent Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 bridges the house and techno divide so nicely that it could perhaps be the soundtrack that explains what happened in 2008. As the brains behind 'Son of Raw' and 'Sandcastles', Dennis Ferrer has always had a penchant for the deeper side of house music and has always done a fine job of working those soulful vocals, but this set for Radio 1 combines his house music roots with more forward-thinking techno and tech house. Sebo K 'Diva', Johnny D 'Requiem For A Dream' and Martin Buttrich's remix of Trolle and Siebenhaar 'Sweet Dogs' all feature in his two hour set. The Luna II microphone is expected to ship later this month, with an MSRP of $399.99 US. Full details can be found here.
Posted: 17 Nov 2008 10:50 AM CST Each Monday we joke that we have to steal the records of world's best DJs for our weekly Weekend Weapons feature, but the truth is these DJs are more than happy to share their top tracks with the Beatportal community. Not Lee Burridge however. On Saturday at Beta nightclub in Denver, Lee told us that he wasn't interested in the slightest in revealing his big tracks. Oh dear. That left us with a big problem because if Lee didn't do the feature, there would be no Weekend Weapons for you today, so for the sake of Beatportal's users we took evasive action and swiped Lee Burridge's records. Literally. Here's the three biggest tracks from Lee's set, without descriptions from Lee, because we couldn't ask him for descriptions after nicking his vinyl, could we?
Valiant Truth - Red Rack 'Em, Hot Coins Posted: 17 Nov 2008 08:12 AM CST A total homage to the nu-disco overlord Lindstrom, this little track is a pastiche of funky bass, driving snares and epic space disco. Driven by a stomping 4/4 beat, ‘Valiant Truth’ is a psychedelic journey that features synths and effects that wash over and flood the consciousness with deep, lucid imagery, taking the listener to a higher celestial realm.
Chart: Famous When Dead VI - Todd Terje Posted: 16 Nov 2008 11:05 PM CST Titled after the compilation series that highlights their standouts of the year, Playhouse's Norwegian wunderkind Todd Terje presents us with a new chart on Beatport. Responsible for some of the hottest remixes and productions that have been coming down the pike nonstop lately, Terje has compiled some of his personal faves, including his own smoky and richly textured exotic rework of Simon Baker's 'Plastik' from last summer, also featured on the actual compilation.
