Dubfire on his Oliver Huntemann collaboration ‘Dios’

Posted: 07 Nov 2008 10:43 PM CST

As one of the most talked about and successful techno artists of the last 18 months, Ali ‘Dubfire’ Shirazinia should have little to prove. But as we found out recently, the biggest and most vehement critic of his oft-discussed new techno direction, is himself. Taking his latest collaboration with Oliver Huntemann as a decent excuse for a catch up, we discussed the process behind the Hawtin, Dice and Väth supported track 'Dios' (check it in the player below), the theory behind his own SCI + TEC label, and the blood, sweat and tears that go into his productions.

London: Interview with disco crew Loose

Posted: 07 Nov 2008 05:33 PM CST

A while back we did an interview with London party crew Disco Blood Bath, who at the time were playing gay disco music in a very loud purple basement. With all the electro-prog-tech-trance crossovers these days, categorising tracks into specific genres can often be tricky. But Kandi & Neumann’s ‘Let Go’ fits 100% into the trance box. Summer EP - Aroy Dee

Posted: 07 Nov 2008 10:53 AM CST

One of the most exciting musical developments of 2008 was a newly revived Dutch underground techno movement, led by the heavy hitting loops of 2000 And One, the funky tech house of Lauhaus, the minimal grooves of Kabale Und Liebe and the stunning house of Aroy Dee. Unlike some of the formulaic bongo rhythms and ethnic vocals characterising the current deep house revival, Aroy Dee's approach to house music is more melancholic, misshapen and expansive in its sources.

For those of you who don’t know, They Came From The Stars (I Saw Them) are a psychedelic version of the Flaming Lips with additional helpings of acid. This interstellar cut has been treated to a more earthly reworking from the king of italo-disco re-edits, Serge Santiago.
