Production Master Class: Kick and bass

Feature: Wasted Youth start Chicago’s house revolution

Everybody knows about Chicago's rich history of house music, but Chi-town has been relatively quiet as of late. All that is set to change, thanks to Wasted Chicago Youth, who are promising no less than a revolution. They aim to "fight crime in the audio community", and despite their comic book superhero approach to the subject of rejuvenating Chicago's house scene, they're taking it damn seriously. Beatportal decided to grab Mazi and Justin Long to discuss the impetus for this new collaboration, how they're starting to unify the Chi-town scene once again, and why house music is like the Yiddish language.

The Pace - 7027

Basic Channel started a worldwide phenomenon in the mid-1990s with the introduction of a sound that became known as dub techno. At first it was picked up by the electronic music elite based around Berlin's famous Hard Wax record store, before eventually becoming one of the biggest trends in the world of techno. Dub techno finally died off after the genre failed to evolve due to a lack of innovation. Now though, Basic Channel are set to once again influence the new sound of techno with the news that they will release all of their original 12-inches exclusively on Beatport.

Here's a video of Swedish techno DJ Adam Beyer and his partner in crime Joel Mull getting freaky behind the decks at Compression at Cinespace in Los Angeles. On Friday the boys tore up Compression with a set of chunky techno grooves and acid tricks.
