| News | Dave Clarke releases ‘Back in the Box’ Posted: 25 Sep 2008 10:43 PM CDT In a recent interview we discovered that the baron of techno, Dave Clarke, is launching a new label called White Noise this autumn. Now we hear that he is also busy compiling the latest addition to NRK's 'Back in the Box' retrospective series, where the heavy hitters take to the crates and earmark their all-time favorites for public perusal. On this compilation we can find some of the most golden oldies but goodies, with classic Chicago house sounds of the '80s and UK faves represented. Included in the list is Ralphi Rosario, Foremost Poets, Bam Bam, Fantasy Club and several others to take you down memory lane. Check out the tracklist after the break. |
| News | Dave Smith introduces Mopho Posted: 25 Sep 2008 08:05 PM CDT Man, keeping secrets is hard… Back in January, Dave Smith confided in me that he was working on a fully analog, totally portable monosynth based on the Prophet 08 for less than $500 US – and asked what I thought of its potential. That’s like having Pete Tong ask if you liked the set. Well, the secret’s out and you’re hearing it here first. |
| Posted: 25 Sep 2008 08:00 PM CDT To say that Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere software synth has generated a big buzz would be sheer understatement. Designed by Eric Persing – the man behind the Roland sound from 1984 to 2005 and frankly, one of the best sound designers in the known universe – Omnisphere really does represent years of development. |
| News | Top Track: Donnacha Costello ‘It Simply Is / Trust’ Posted: 25 Sep 2008 06:44 PM CDT Donnacha Costello has long been recognised as one of Ireland’s premier techno masters, and this spine-tingling double header confirms that he’s still way ahead of the pack. In an age where techno producers seem happy to churn out countless sound-a-like tracks to keep their name in the headlines, Donnacha's refreshingly sporadic release schedule shows that he'd rather bide his time until he's got something special to offer - which both tracks here most certainly are. |
| News | Damian Lazarus announces Devil Night Tour with $5 mix compilation Posted: 25 Sep 2008 04:29 PM CDT British techno DJ Damian Lazarus recently moved to Los Angeles, and in November the Crosstown Rebels boss will perform in cities across North and South America as part of his Devil Night Tour. To coincide with the tour, Damian Lazarus is offering Beatport users his eagerly anticipated Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi compilation mix ‘Night Of The Dark Machines’ on Soma Recordings for a special rate of $5 for the duration of the tour. “I’ve been falling in love with America and my tour coincides with a move from London to LA, where I’m looking forward to experiencing first hand the birth of a new underground, electronic renaissance that has ignited all over the country," said Lazarus of his 13-date tour, which will take him to Juarez, New York, Monterrey and Chicago, as well as the infamous celebration of Día de los Muertos in Mexico City. |
| News | Has the internet killed live music discovery? Posted: 25 Sep 2008 01:20 PM CDT Last.fm is fast becoming one of those bastions of web-based business, the sort of venture even your parents talk about with an informed manner. Since it launched as “The Social Music Revolution” in 2002 (that is, before the CBS conglomerate swallowed it whole) it has reached 200 countries and now claims over 21 million unique users. |
| Posted: 25 Sep 2008 10:23 AM CDT Loco Dice is one of those DJs that, as soon as he walks into a room, the attention shifts to him. I witnessed this alpha-dog phenomena at the Cocoon Recordings party at Amnesia in August, when Loco Dice was playing back to back with Luciano . He wandered up to the DJ booth quite relaxed, with a drink in hand, and immediately the 20 or so industry heads in the booth all turned to him and started shaking his hand and patting him on the back. Loco just has this cachet of musical knowledge that makes you want to chat to him. A chart by Loco Dice then, is bound to be hammered by fans looking to find out more about his unique, wonky minimal techno and deep house sound. Check it, after ze break. |

Johnny Fiasco has recently been engaging new audiences with 'The Klassik Fiasco' re-releases almost ten years later; remastered, revamped and released digitally for the first time ever. Without a doubt, 'Conduction' can be found in record crates for DJs worldwide. Hailed as one of the biggest pre-minimal slices of techno/house, 'Conduction' has now been brought back and remixed by the hottest producers hand-picked by Fiasco himself. Remixers include Sneak, Santiago & Bushido, Jake Childs, Garci Noise, Tres Manos, Mazi and Willpower. Aside from his tour de force, the masterful and accomplished Fiasco continually reinvents himself through his timeless house music creations. |
