News | Bay Area Rebound: A Conversation With Gavin Hardkiss

There aren't many people in the San Francisco dance music scene who have had as much influence and history as Gavin Hardkiss. Since 'The Magick Sounds Of The Underground' 12" was released in 1992 Gavin, under his Hawke guise, and his brothers Hardkiss have unleashed a slew of psychedelic disco tunes on receptive dancefloors worldwide. Following his 2005 Hawke album 'Love Won Another' Gavin left his adopted San Francisco home and traveled around California, continuing to work on music and contemplate his sound. Now, in Autumn 2008, Gavin's finally returned to the Bay Area that shaped him and has released his latest collection of tunes 'The Knight Of The Hawke Fields' on Florida-based label Eight Tracks. Interestingly, he's chosen to release this under the name Gavin Hardkiss for the first time. We were able to track down Gavin and ask him a few questions about this release, his return to San Francisco, and his many years as a DJ.

With both their debut album and lead single in the UK Top 40 and rave reviews streaming in from far and wide, critically acclaimed nu-disco live act Hercules and Love Affair are hitting the road on a North American tour. Picked up for remixes from the likes of Kevin Saunderson, Frankie Knuckles and Derrick Carter, Hercules and Love Affair were one of the more notable acts at as such festivals as Glastonbury and Sonar, and have enjoyed a lengthy stay in the spotlight as recent media darlings. News | Sub:Stance, Berlin’s massive dubstep night returns

This summer saw Berlin’s infamous techno club, Berghain, open its doors for the first time on a Friday night for Sub:Stance, Europe’s newest dubstep night. Officially the largest dubstep night in the world outside of the UK, the night returns for its second time around on October 3rd.

Following the footsteps of labelmate Heartthrob, who released his first longplayer 'Dear Painter, Paint Me' a few months ago, (Jon) Gaiser is about to release his debut album on Minus in November. At the beginning of the year the Minus posse announced '10 weeks of silence', a period in which none of the Minus artists performed live or got behind the turntables to focus on spending time in the studio, having a personal life and whatnot.
