Posted: 22 Aug 2008 08:00 PM CDT

Similar to the Beatport Burners, Genrecasts are enhanced podcasts featuring the best new releases linked directly for download from Beatport. This week's episode features tracks from DJ Fresh, Kabuki, John B, Full Force Recordings, Nightfall and more. The Genrecast is an 'enhanced' podcast, which means each track in the mix has a track mark and shows the release artwork, so when you listen to it in iTunes or your iPod you'll be able to skip through tracks in the mix, see the cover art of each release and click through to Beatport to buy the release. It's the easiest way for DJs to do record shopping!

News | James Holden: Everyone is making “Ableton Techno”

Posted: 22 Aug 2008 04:17 PM CDT

James Holden was just 19-years old when he released his first single 'Horizons' in 2000. At the time he was studying maths at Oxford University, but all he cared about was making music in his bedroom (that, and wearing goth T-shirts). 'Horizons' was an epic, progressive trance record that came at the tipping point when trance became too mainstream and progressive house emerged as its darker, more evil brother. James Holden became an overnight sensation thanks to 'Horizon', with a little helpful support from German DJ Timo Maas (who was still riding high thanks to his 'Dooms Night' remix). But in a recent interview it's clear that Holden has no respect for the legions of Ableton producers out there trying to make it big through bedroom tunes.

News | Arthur Oskan’s upcoming releases and tour announcement

Posted: 22 Aug 2008 01:36 AM CDT

Arthur Oskan (a.k.a.Myers Briggs), Toronto’s live PA wonder, is making some serious leaps forward in the national and even international music scene as a notable producer. His 'Resolutions EP' topped Alan Oldham's chart for Tresor (Berlin), and his track 'Forever' has also been celebrated by James Holden, Nic Fanciulli, and Hernan Cattaneo. Today he has just given us word that this month he is signing an administrative licensing deal with Fabricpublishing.com that could really open the door further for him to secure placement of his evocative and emotive music in advertisements, in television or in film soundtracks. Recently he also completed a remix for Claudio Mate's release 'Everything is OK in Detroit' which is due out by early September. Not only is Arthur Oskan making heads turn and ears perk with his intricate epic sounding tracks, (his nine-minute long 'Forever' currently appears on John Digweed's 'Transmission Vol. 4' compilation), but Oskan’s original tracks are found on labels including Sentient Sound, Beretta, Thoughtless Music, Restructured, Heavy Industries, Secret Weapon and Mono. Beatport caught up with Arthur Oskan a.k.a. Myers Briggs from his home in Toronto to gain perspective on his work and to hear about his exciting plans for the fall.
