| Podcast | Genrecast: Chill Out 01 - Beatport Posted: 11 Aug 2008 10:30 PM CDT Introducing the first installment of the Beatport Chill Out Genrecast. Similar to the Beatport Burners, Genrecasts are enhanced podcasts featuring the best new releases linked directly for download from Beatport. This week's episode kicks it off with tracks from Guy Monk, Sender Berlin, Rogue Audio, Get Physical, Global Underground and more. The Genrecast is an 'enhanced' podcast, which means each track in the mix has a track mark and shows the release artwork, so when you listen to it in iTunes or your iPod you'll be able to skip through tracks in the mix, see the cover art of each release and click through to Beatport to buy the release. It's the easiest way for DJs to do record shopping! |
| News | The Chemical Brothers win over Space Ibiza Posted: 11 Aug 2008 10:12 PM CDT Last night saw the triumphant return of the Chemical Brothers to Ibiza, 14 years after they were kicked off the decks midway through their set at Space. Despite a 70 Euro door charge (no free drink included) Space was jam packed as the Chems dropped twisted breakbeat, electro hip hop and driving electronic house. |
| News | Stefan Goldmann debut album due out in September Posted: 11 Aug 2008 09:49 PM CDT Stefan Goldmann has come a long way since his first bumpy house releases on Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon's Classic imprint. So has his sound. While it all started out, well, very much in the bouncy, Carter-esque house style of Classic, the Berlin-based producer has lately been busy exploring more haunting and minimal corners of the house universe. His debut album 'The Transitory State' will be released on his own Macro label in September. |
| News | iPhone FM synthesizer on its way Posted: 11 Aug 2008 08:00 PM CDT Software startup Amidio has announced Noise.io – their first softsynth for the iPhone. Noise.io is based on Amidio’s ESFM synthesis technology, which stands for Enhanced Subspace Frequency Modulation, a wink-wink wordplay on old Star Trek terminology, which in actuality is simply their approach to FM synthesis. While the sexy Cardassian interface suggests that the synth is capable of fairly complex tone generation possibilities, it remains to be seen whether Noise.io will be playable in a musical context or simply create exotic sound effects. |
| Videos | Video: Amazing tech bomb from Zoo Project, Ibiza Posted: 11 Aug 2008 07:47 PM CDT One of the biggest techno records in Ibiza currently is Daniele Papini 'Church of Nonsense', which we filmed being played at The Zoo Project in Ibiza on Saturday. The track builds up and up with some huge synths, and is definitely one of the best techno records of 2008. Watch this video on Beatportal.com |
| News | Top Track: Aeroplane ‘Whispers’ Posted: 11 Aug 2008 06:32 PM CDT Aeroplane have been lurking beneath the crest of a huge wave in the nu disco ocean for some time now. With this moody disco crawler (and only their third 12), featuring vocals from nu disco 'it' girl Kathy Diamond, they sting like a ray. |
| News | Manumission: Let us entertain you Posted: 11 Aug 2008 05:04 PM CDT X-Press 2 have just dropped Eric Prydz’ ‘Pjanoo’ and the Manumission crowd is going crazy. The dancefloor is packed and everyone is really going for it. All of a sudden – as if you’re in Frankie & Benny’s and it’s someone’s birthday – the music cuts out and everything stops for a fraction of a second. Then the pantomime-style music begins and attention is taken away from the DJ booth and onto the show that’s taking place in the opposite direction. |
| News | New ‘Morgana’ Video and News from Monika Kruse Posted: 11 Aug 2008 04:39 PM CDT Monika Kruse remembers a time when she was just starting her DJ career in the early '90s nearly two decades ago. She was in Munich and had the ingenuity and drive to start her own party on a tram on the street. She has had so much drive during her years in the business that she has successfully navigated the way to start her own label, produce music, and she continues to DJ quite a lot around her home of Berlin and elsewhere. In a café near her office in Prenzleurberg, the most family oriented area of central Berlin, Monika and I had a coffee and chatted. |
| News | The Zoo Project: The best party in Ibiza? Posted: 11 Aug 2008 01:25 PM CDT Take an old, abandoned zoo, put a DJ booth in the seal pit, hire some fire-eaters for entertainment, invite some friendly clubbers and you've got the perfect Ibizan party. The Zoo Project, which attracted about 1,500 party animals yesterday, is a must for anyone who loves dancing in the sunshine and is after one of those unique clubbing experiences you can only get in Ibiza. |
| Posted: 11 Aug 2008 11:54 AM CDT Dyed Soundorom is one of the underground’s most hotly tipped producers. Yet another one of French label Freak ’n’ Chic’s talented protégé’s (think Jamie Jones, Shonky or Marc Antona to name a few), he’s another link in the chain of cutting edge producers keeping the French scene flushed. |
| News | Ridiculous tech-house tune: ‘Fixation’ Posted: 11 Aug 2008 04:10 AM CDT Now that technology is as cheap as chips and you can make music off of your iPhone, it's probably true that most DJs are, aside from playing out, turning their hands to making music. "Tell me something I don't know," I hear you yawn. Well, if you fall under this bracket you'd better cover your ears and look away now, because we've found a tech-house anthem so accomplished that it might make you want to throw in the towel. |
| News | Owner of Ibiza Underground refuses to advertise Posted: 11 Aug 2008 12:16 AM CDT The owner of the Ibizan club ‘Underground Ibiza’, Nick Fry, prides himself on purposefully avoiding promotion, sponsorship and advertising. We asked him why this was. Here’s what he said: |
| News | Bora Bora’s big improvement Posted: 10 Aug 2008 07:08 PM CDT Back in June Beatportal visited Bora Bora Beach Bar in Ibiza's Playa D'en Bossa and wrote "it's lost much of its original vibe...it's lost its freedom," but yesterday a return visit left us feeling much more upbeat. It was rammed full of crazy party people having a wicked time, and there was a full on party going on at 5 PM. |
