News | Modular Records reports $6m loss

Indie dance (often called nu rave) has been hyped more than any other genre recently, but the scene's most influential label Modular has reported almost $6m AUD in losses for 2007, a shockingly poor performance considering the wealth of talent on the label. With a roster that includes The Presets, Cut Copy, New Young Pony Club, Wolfmother, Van She and MSTRKRFT, you would have thought that as the scene's flagship label Modular would be flying high with Champagne breakfasts for all its execs. That's not the case apparently.

Music mash up gone mad? The great thing about music is that there’s something for everyone, and everyone’s entitled to their own tastes. But there’s a time and a place for certain music scenes. You wouldn’t attend The Big Chill and find yourself in a mosh pit, and you don’t expect a dance music festival’s line-up to include a rapper. The controversial decision for Kanye West to headline the UK’s Global Gathering event this year inspired much debate and was a hot topic on forums everywhere.

The first edition of Berlin club Watergate new mix series just hit the shops the other day, showing the meticulous DJ skills of Turkish DJ and producer Onur Özer, who crafted his mix from a line-up of hypnotic and polyrhythmic minimal techno tracks. We can now reveal that Bpitch Control's Sascha Funke is going to take over the controls on the follow-up.

Four years after British DJ Sasha redefined the DJ mix compilation with 'Involver', he's finally ready to release its follow up 'Invol2ver'. The release of 'Involver' in 2004 defined Sasha's evolution from vinyl to digital and reconfirmed his position as one of the world's greatest DJs. Word has it that the anticipation for Involver 2 has been so intense, that false tracklistings, fake audio torrents and even doctored artwork have appeared online in the build up to the release, so desperate were Sasha's fans for the 2nd edition. Was the wait worth it?

News | Goldie Conducts Brahms

In a new reality TV show entitled 'Maestro’, Goldie has been training up to conduct the Sinfonia Tamesa Orchestra in performing Brahm’s Academic Festival Overture. Speaking to the New Statesman magazine Goldie is quoted as saying, ‘I wish I could have got into that side of music earlier but I was always too scared to go to music school."
